Get the Advice of a Chartered Surveyor Who’s Seen It All
Need property and construction advice you can trust in Kent, London or the South East?
You’re probably aware that building work needs to comply with planning and safety guidelines. You may also discover that complex technical and legal points can arise during a construction project
– both residential and commercial. Even for modest adaptations and repairs and especially during property purchases or leases.
Perhaps that’s not exactly what you planned?
Yes, at times property can be a frustrating game. That’s where I come in. You could say I stumbled into surveying, but I certainly feel fortunate in my profession.
A Bit About Me
When I left school I knew I wanted to do something hands on. But I didn’t have a clear idea of what that might be. For a brief spell I worked on a farm, where I was most interested in the
buildings. (The animals and machinery came a close second and third.) I talked incessantly about the farm buildings, with whoever would listen.
And since I didn’t fancy getting up before dawn every day to milk the cows, the logical step was to train as an RICS Chartered Surveyor. I’ve been hooked ever
since.
Something about the materials, measurements and construction methods struck a chord. There’s something fascinating about seeing how buildings are put together. I never get tired of the
skill used in a well-designed and built environment.
I’m Still Getting My Hands Dirty ...
Now, more than 30 years later, I count myself lucky to still be working as a Building Surveyor. I carry out surveys locally in Kent, in London and all over the South East. The
rewards remain the same. I get real satisfaction helping clients cut through the clutter to achieve their goals for their property.
Building technology and regulations have changed a fair bit during that time, and keep on changing. I’m always keen to follow industry developments. I never stop learning, and stay current
with regular continued professional development.
I’m still hands on; and I still talk about buildings at every opportunity ...
The Benefits of Choosing the Right Chartered Surveyor
It’s a good idea to get expert input, both before and during your building work or property negotiation. Preferably from a surveyor with proven technical knowledge AND
strong people skills. Someone who can prepare accurate, detailed building reports. Someone who can explain the options in language everyone can understand.
If problems come up, you need to be confident of the expertise and negotiating skills of your surveyor. You need someone who asks the right questions, who’s well informed, and who can fight
your corner.
You need the advice of someone you can trust to find the best way forward.
Check Your Surveyor’s Credentials, Experience & Specialisms
Naturally, you should check your surveyor’s credentials. Make sure they have completed an Assessment
of Professional Competence (APC) with RICS. Also, to make sure they’ll be a good fit for what you have in mind, ask about their specialisms. No two RICS Chartered Surveyors will have the same level
of expertise and interest in every surveying technique.
See the pages on commercial property surveying, residential surveys and
Party Wall Surveys for my specialist areas, then give me a call on 07967 254296 to see if I
can help.
If I’m not the best person to advise you or if I can’t meet your schedule, I won’t waste your time. I’ll connect you with another professional who can.
I’ve Been a Fully-Accredited Chartered Surveyor in Kent Since 1990
The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) was formed way back in 1868 in response to the need for more careful control of the built environment.
I’m among only 10% of surveyors who have the specialist Chartered Building Surveyor designation. As such, I carry substantial professional indemnity insurance. So you’ll be fully covered in the
event of any claim arising from my work (not that there’s ever been a claim made against me).
As a professional member of RICS, I use the following guiding principles:
- My aim, always, is to help clients complete satisfactory property negotiations and construction projects they can be proud of.
- All parties to any transaction deserve to be treated with respect.
- I exercise good judgement, based on up-to-date knowledge of construction and three decades of surveying experience with all kinds of buildings and property.
I get a good deal of satisfaction in helping construction projects come to completion and in bringing about successful property transactions.
Seeing them all done well – and with such quality you know they’ll stand the test of time.
